Press Releases 06 February 2007 New Betting Shop TV Channel Opens Talks with Bookmakers The joint venture between Alphameric PLC and a consortium of Britain's leading racecourses to launch a new betting channel for bookmakers featuring exclusive coverage from courses such as Aintree, Cheltenham and Newmarket, is to be called Amalgamated Racing Limited it was announced today. Bookmakers will be approached by Amalgamated Racing in the next two weeks with details of the new service. Amalgamated Racing is a joint venture company wholly owned by Alphameric PLC and the 30 racecourses behind Racing UK in a new company called Racecourse Media Services. Racing UK already held the 'non exclusive' Licensed Betting Office (LBO) rights from their courses. Those rights have been transferred to the new joint venture and upgraded to 'exclusive' in response to SiS agreeing exclusive deals with other tracks including Arena and Northern. Live footage and data from the 30 racecourses involved will only be available to bookmakers taking Amalgamated Racing's service. The service will be delivered through a satellite network using an Astra or Sky dish but bookmakers will not have to pay commercial subscriptions to Sky. Amalgamated Racing will supply and install a satellite dish and set top box at all subscribing betting shops - free of charge. Alan Morcombe, Alphameric's Group Chief Executive, commented: Amalgamated Racing is now a reality and will bring a much needed competitive element to the market place. When the full service is launched, only LBOs subscribing to the service will be able to show pictures and receive data from the best racecourses in the UK. With the quality of exclusive rights we have to offer, coupled with a very competitive pricing structure, we believe Amalgamated Racing will be an invaluable service. An introductory letter will be sent to all UK and Irish bookmakers over the next two weeks as official commercial talks begin for the full launch of Amalgamated Racing's service in January 2008.
